Modiphius is a board game based on "Skyrim" and "Homeworld" and a pen-and-paper RPG based on "Fallout," "Star Trek," and "Dishonored" and is a leading tabletop adaptation of existing properties. The company is firmly established as one of the leading developers. Next on the slate is Terry Pratchett's Discworld Tales.
"Initially, we are considering publishing a tabletop role-playing game set in the city of Ankh-Morpork and the wider Disc," Modiphius announced, "with a tabletop role-playing game kickstarter scheduled for late 2024!" he stated.
This would be the second official RPG based on Pratchett's fantasy setting, following a version published by Steve Jackson Games in 1998 that runs on the Generic Universal Role-Play System (GURPS) rules. As an encyclopedia of Discworld information and as a collection of Paul Kidby's art, it was a nice book, but the mathematical rule set did not seem to fit Discworld's comedic style. My book went straight to the bookshelf after reading and was never played; whatever rules Modiphius decides to use for their RPGs, I hope they are lighter and looser.
Modiphius is interested in hearing what Discworld lovers have to say about the idea of an RPG based on this beloved series, and has a survey you can fill out to have your voice heard. I for one am looking forward to seeing another Discworld RPG hit the shelves. Even if it's gathering dust, more Discworld books means more things to cover when the Prachat Podcast runs out of novels, and I'm all for that.
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that Modiphius published RPGs based on Aliens, Blade Runner, and Tales from the Loop. In fact, these games are published by Free League, Inc.
