Sky: Children of the Light, the delightfully accessible MMO from the developers of Journey, finally has a release date for PC; the Steam page has been promising an "undetermined" release date for the past year. Like Thatgamecompany's other emotional flying adventures, I've been eagerly awaiting the day it finally comes to PC, and it's been worth the wait Sky will be available for free play on Steam on April 10.

"Sky" is one of my most anticipated cozy games of the year. Don't tell other PC gamers, because I've already been playing it on Nintendo Switch for years, borrowing a lot from the success of Thatgamecompany's smash hit "Journey." Flying and exploring, a great soundtrack, a restrained approach to multiplayer, and great sand surfing. The game is full of puzzles, secrets, platform challenges to find, and ghostly spirits to befriend. And just as the meta-progression keeps you playing "Journey" anew, "Sky" has an ascension system that keeps you playing long after your first playthrough.

I was initially skeptical that a live service version of "Journey" would sell. But make no mistake, it did, and TGC really focuses on the joys of flight and exploration without adding too much of the fluff of other MMOs. There are cosmetic unlockables, premium currency, and season passes available for purchase, but I have yet to have any of that stuff hinder or detract from my enjoyment. And while I knew an MMO like Journey would never keep me too busy, the unlocking of each spirit's reward tree is still far behind, guaranteeing a solid week of immersion in Sky every time I return.

Sky offered a demo of the PC version at last October's Steam Next Fest, which has yet to be removed. As such, enthusiasts will be able to play a bit without having to wait. The demo doesn't offer any particularly rich graphics features, and we still recommend playing with a gamepad, but other than that, we found the transition to PC to be easy.

In short, if you have fond memories of Journey, I suggest you put aside your concerns about live service and play Sky, which will be available on Steam on April 10, and TGC has announced in an official announcement that will run alongside the Steam launch, with several different cosmetic purchases and outlines the in-game events.
