The Ryzen9 5900XT is a 16-core chip located between the existing ryzen9 5900X and 5950X models, while the ryzen7 5800XT closely reflects the 8-core Ryzen7 5800X. In theory, an 8-core CPU is a more interesting option for gamers, so let's start from there.
The new 5800XT features 8 Zen3-spec cores on a single CCD that hooks into AMD's I/O and memory controller dies. In almost all respects, the new 5800XT is almost identical to the old 5800X.So, it's 8 cores, 16 threads, 105W TDP, 36MB cache, works. The only difference is that the new 5800XT gets a maximum boost clock of 4.8GHz, whereas the old 5800X works at 4.7GHz. Obviously, things have moved on since the ryzen5000 series and Zen3 were announced in 2020. But the 5800X remains a fairly effective gaming chip, so the 5800XT should all be just as good.
If there is a snag, it is pricing. Officially, AMD originally fixed the new Ryzen7 5800XT with originally249 before claiming this was an error. So while there's no official price yet, the terrible249 isn't a terrible price, especially given that the 5800X was launched on the Ne449, Newegg will take a look at what the new chip is actually selling for, but if it'sド249, you'll need to buy the needle. It's not exactly moving.
The 16-core Cpu is not necessarily a natural game chip, but the Ryzen9 5900XT is actually more interesting among the 2 new CPUs. This was because the old 5900X only offered 12 cores, so to get 16 cores you had to get the Megabucks Ryzen9 5950X.
Again, there is no final price for the new 5900XT, but the price that was initially misstated gives it 359 cores at a list price of just116. Back in 2020-11, the 5950XT will cost you7799. Again, the problem is that you can get 5950X from Newegg today for today359 (using promo code to release the final$10).
The older 5950X also has a maximum boost clock that is very slightly higher at 4.8GHz versus 4.9GHz. Newegg's numbers are sales prices, which may reflect insider information that a new AMD chip has emerged, and may require adjustments to keep older models relevant.
So the 2 new Cpus are not an immediate bargain in terms of real-world retail compared to those already available, at the price initially listed, but give it another launch price and a few months, especially the 5900XT is available for a spectacular 16-core drop-in upgrade for AM4 motherboard owners.
