Here's a confession: I have no idea what's going on. In real life, as in every FromSoft game I've ever played, except for SEKIRO (where there's a little lord boy and he urgently wants me to stab everyone), I have no idea what's going on. I just roam from room to room and kill whatever I find there. It's a simple, caveman way for me to enjoy the work that Miyazaki and I collaborated on, but it's good enough for me.
Okay, enough of that. I'm going to study the history of Lands Between in a thoroughly unofficial new lore book (via GamesRadar) from author Geoff "SmoughTown" Truscott and publisher Tune & Fairweather, founded by Jason Killingsworth, a former editor at Edge magazine (the same publisher as PC Gamer) who most recently worked at Riot Games. The book is titled Grace Given.
It is also, to say the least, expensive. Specifically, the cheapest edition costs 215 pounds (about $275), the "Limited" edition costs 602 pounds (about $775), and the "Benefactor" edition costs 859 pounds (about $1,110). The Limited edition comes with an art print, and those who purchase the Benefactor edition will have their name listed in the back of the book.
The book will be available in 2025, so it is still in the pre-order stage, but when it is released it will be a "comprehensive, in-depth look at the mythology behind Miyazaki's latest masterpiece. Imagine being a creative giant. To be able to casually toss it around without thinking about it.
The book is also, as I said, quite gorgeous. The faces of the Eldenring characters are embossed and the cover has a nice artwork of a man with a sword and a horse.
A ridiculously expensive luxury item, the Elden Ring seems to have been created by its very nature, but I admit to being a bit tempted. Unfortunately, all the millions of pounds I have earned from game journalism have been spent on designer drugs and a menagerie of endangered animals for which I write all my articles. Please, for a good cause.
