If you like collecting Steam trading cards but aren't too interested in bashing Steam's discovery queue every day to get them during Steam sales, the SteamDB browser extension makes it SteamDB Browser Extension makes it easy to get paid without having to do that.
The SteamDB extension is available for Firefox, Chrome, and Edge, and does a lot of good things: it shows the lowest price for a game, shows the number of simultaneous players, automatically approves terms of use on the purchase page, and much more.
I am an Augmented Steam user and have little intention of changing, but the new additions to the SteamDB extension have me thinking about using both. (As SteamDB creator Pavel Djundik announced on Twitter, the extension allows users to claim the daily trading cards and stickers they get for viewing the Discovery Queue without actually viewing the Discovery Queue. An option has been added.
Steam's Discovery Queue is essentially a curated list of games you might like based on the games you have played in the past. To encourage its use, Valve traditionally offers new digital goodies such as trading cards and stickers when you browse the Discovery Queue each day during Steam sales. In theory, this is a way to find new games to play when you don't know what to play, but in practice, for many, it's just a power-up to get a collector's item.
Seems like a fair trade to me, but it's as small a reward as it is a small inconvenience, and maybe you'll find a cool new game in the process. With the SteamDB extension installed, in Steam's "Store" Go to the drop-down menu and select the "Discovery Queue" option. Not surprisingly, once the extension is installed, you will see a new "auto-discover" button. Press this button and watch the numbers spin as the machine discovers the queue for you. It all takes just a few seconds.
Tried it. This is completely against the spirit of the Discovery Queue Reward, and I would not be at all surprised if Valve somehow discontinued this feature soon. But I wouldn't be surprised if Valve ignores this whole thing, just as I wouldn't be surprised if Valve refuses to acknowledge Deadlock's existence despite the fact that half the planet is currently playing it; you never know with Valve. In any case, if you like Steam trading cards, you'll definitely want to give this one a try.
