OLED technology has taken a long time to make the transition from TVs to PC monitors. The only snag is that the best OLED gaming monitors seem to be taking just as long to become affordable.

This year's Prime Day deals took a big turn in that direction. Not “really cheap” exactly, but a savings of over $1,000, and certainly more affordable than when OLED monitors all had four-figure price tags.

The cheapest is the LG UltraGear 27GR95QE-B. It was released early last year for $999, but is now $400 cheaper at $599 on Newegg. Of course, that's still expensive for a 27-inch 1440p panel.

Additionally, the monitor uses LG's first-generation WOLED technology, which is not the best when it comes to full-screen brightness. However, it still provides HDR sizzle and pixel response that blows 2010-era LCD panels out of the water.

At the other end of the OLED monitor size spectrum are a pair of 49-inch models from Gigabyte and Samsung. Of course, both use the same Samsung QD-OLED panel technology, with the same 5,120 x 1,440 resolution and a mind-boggling aspect ratio of 31:9.

What's even crazier is that the Samsung Odyssey G9 G93SC OLED is over $1,000 less than its original launch price of $2,000. It is now available on Amazon for just $980.

Still, that's a lot of money. In fact, this 49-inch monitor is the only OLED gaming monitor that looks reasonably priced compared to OLED TVs.

The other half of this 49-inch duo is the Gigabyte Aorus CO49DQ, which at $900 on Amazon is still a bit cheaper. It also only runs at 144 Hz, instead of Samsung's 240 Hz. However, the resolution is so high that a higher refresh rate will not be a problem for most games.

That said, our favorite of the bunch is probably the OG OLED gaming monitor. Well, almost; the Alienware 34 AW3423DWF was the first proper OLED gaming monitor on the market, a slight variation of the Alienware 34 AW3423DW.

At this point, one might say that the Alienware 34 AW3423DWF is a bit old, as it features first-generation Samsung QD-OLED panel technology. In reality, however, Samsung QD-OLED panels have not advanced that much.

What has changed is the price. When we first reviewed it, the MSRP was $1,099. Now it's $699 from Dell, the lowest price we've seen. It's still a hefty price compared to an affordable 34-inch ultrawide LCD, but you're getting something special: a glossy panel, stunning HDR high resolution, and ridiculously fast response time.

In short, OLED monitors are not cheap, but they are much easier to buy than ever before. This is a great time to buy an OLED monitor.
