Whatever the “Baldur's Gate 3” Modders were drinking, I want a double dose. They have given us mods that make the whole party walk around on all fours, add roguelike mode, and commit war crimes against the hair follicles of Asterion. The momentum has yet to stop.
The latest round of uploads to Nexus Mods includes a few highlights: the first is for Shadowheart Nation, giving the variable goddess cleric improved imp summoning abilities; the voice actors for Baldur's Gate 3 are in a D&D game; the second is for the new Baldur's Gate 2 mod, which adds the ability to summon the imps of the Baldur's Gate 3. In a nod to the gag in the actual play footage (later canonized in the game's epilogue) about playing their own characters, Shadowheart was first given the ability to summon an adorable imp named “Bing Bong” in a mod released last year. It has now been tweaked by another modder and released as Better Bing Bong with some changes to the original.
For starters, Bing Bong levels up as you level up, gaining more hit points, higher proficiency bonuses, and more abilities. Also, if you throw it at someone (a monster), it will burn them, and the amount of damage it does depends on its level. If you can't stand the thought of throwing it at a Owlbear and accidentally killing a cute baby, you can switch the throw damage exemption.
Next up is Mankini, a mod that adds a new type of underwear that can be worn by gentleman elves, half-elves, and humans. This is the mankini from “Borat” and comes in four different sizes. To install this mod, you also need the mod Tutorial Chest Summoning.
Baldur's Gate 3 will have full mod support in patch 7, which will also provide a mod manager. However, the closed beta of that update has been delayed thanks to a bug that breaks passive die rolls. Even without official support, the BG3 modding community is thriving. Not only are they providing us with silly mods like this one, but also more obvious and useful tweaks, like the mod that was essential in eliminating the party size limit.
