No Battle Pass for Sony's Hero Shooter Concorde: 'Concorde is Yours, Concorde is Not Yours'

The upcoming hero shooter Concord will not have a battle pass and there are no plans to charge for it in the future, developer Firewalk announced. The announcement was made via Concord's social media and in response to players' questions about the game's post-launch content.

“There will be no Battle Pass in Concord,” Firewalk said. Instead, the studio expects that “just playing the game, leveling up your account and character, and completing jobs” will be reward enough. (Jobs are like challenges.)

There are plans to add to Concord after launch in “regular post-launch seasons and updates,” Firewalk said, but there will be no additional money to Concord's base price of $40.

“There is no battle pass, folks,” Concord's gameplay animation director Mark DeRidder said at X.

“There is no battle pass, folks. [It seems unusual not to have to explain how a complex battle pass with multiple currency types works. That said, if the game is going to last, I would expect some monetization to take place after the purchase. (Concord offers pre-purchase packages of skins and such, some of which are in such bad taste that you can pay to play three days early.)

Firewalk will also include at launch the first three in-game cinematic vignettes that will be included in the package. Those who played the beta will have already seen the first one, but there is also a nice cinematic trailer for Concord that was released in June.

“Concord” had a very short road from release to beta and then to release in late August, and the recent Steam beta had a much smaller player count than expected; those who tried it out on PC Gamer enjoyed it and used what they could place in the beta to build a makeshift fortress They seemed to take pleasure in building them.

Morgan Park rated the game as pretty good for a hero shooter that seems to be eight years behind. He played it for seven hours and immediately wanted to play it again.

“I'm in love with Concord's guns. They look great, they sound great, they animate great, and as is par for the course for Bungie's veteran team, Concord is especially adept at reloading, and I love the scene where Haymer's hand crossbow turns a clockwork crank and she loads another flamethrower.”

Nevertheless, with interest so far seemingly low and not much marketing time to build further excitement, Concord may struggle to get off the ground. The game will be released at the end of August and can be found on the PlayStation website if you are interested in a game that can be purchased without having to subscribe to Epic, Steam, or, like me, a new lifestyle.
