Now that "Baldur's Gate 3" is done, Larian has two more RPGs in the works. Since this is Larian, it's going to be quite a massive undertaking.
Developing two RPGs at the same time sounds like a huge undertaking, so I wondered if Larian was going to scale back compared to something as huge as "Baldur's Gate 3." CEO Swen Vincke, in an interview before the first anniversary of BG3, said that it was not It turned out not to be the case. [The machine] is meant for large-scale games. We were built to make big, ambitious RPGs, to try new things." It is also worth noting that Larian has grown a lot in the last few years. While having more developers doesn't necessarily mean faster turnarounds or the ability to make more games, it certainly means more resources. Larian currently has nearly 500 developers and is not strapped for cash after the success of "BG3."
Vincke and Larian also already know what they want to do." What they want from the gameplay system, how they want it to evolve, how they want to do new things: ...... And they are all big"
.
What form these RPGs will take is still unknown, at least outside Larian. However, the developers recently met in Barcelona to discuss "lift-off" for the first of the two games, and Vinke sold them on his vision for the game.
Although he has not revealed anything, we should not rule out the possibility that Larian will dabble in a new genre setting. Although traditionally a fantasy studio, it is not bound by a setting. When asked if he would be interested in leaving fantasy and trying another genre, such as science fiction, "Of course," Finke replied. There are so many things I would love to do. There are just very few things I can do."
