Star Wars Outlaws has been a pleasant surprise so far. Not only was I able to captivate staff writer Morgan Park with a lengthy hands-on demo, but it even seems like players already have a favorite character, even though the game hasn't even been released yet.
ND-5, the BX-series droid commander created by the Independent Systems Coalition, is the current companion of outlaw badass protagonist Kay Vess, but most fans will only know him by his nickname, Hot Droid. nd-5 is the Star Wars Outlaws always seems to make a pretty splashy wave whenever it appears in new information, but apparently it was not intentional at all, and came as a bit of a surprise to the development team.
"Anyone who says they were expecting this is lying," said scenario director Navid Khavari in an interview with GamesHub.
"And anyone who says they were expecting this is lying," said scenario director Navid Khavari in an interview with GamesHub. I still remember when the announcement was made, the tweets started popping up, and I texted [ND-5 voice actor Jay Rincon], 'Jay, get ready'".
The tweets were predictably awful, with most people just sightseeing. One fan tweeted, "Droids are HOT." Someone adds, "Commando droids in trench coats, I know this guy fucks." Honestly, there are many more out there, including a ridiculous number of thirst trap edits, but my search history won't get me any further, so you'll have to find them on your own.
"They didn't use any words like sexy or anything like that," Rincon said.
"The artwork was amazing. I was overwhelmed when I first saw it and it obviously helped guide and direct what we eventually came up with. ...... But sitting in a skin-tight suit with all the markers on, that crazy fishnet is nothing sexy."
Despite the lack of facial expressions on the ND-5, Rincon played the scene in a mo-cap suit. In fact, his reference to "fishnets" refers to those used in place of dusters to mimic the movement of the coat around the droid; when GamesHub pointed out that fishnets have a bit of a reputation, Rincon again seemed quite surprised: " How did I not know? How did I not know? But I'll take it, I mean, why not?' I wanted a positive response."
