In the latest patch notes for Elden Ring update 1.13, From Software addresses a number of small issues and bugs. However, along with improvements to the Torrent summoning system, players also get a helpful hint to check their peripherals and mice, as they may be causing frame rate issues.
"In the PC version, unstable frame rates can be caused by third-party applications that control mouse behavior. Disabling these third-party applications may improve performance." The version number displayed in the lower right corner of the title screen will be as follows: App Ver. 1.13. Regulation Ver. 1.13.1".
At the time of release, the "Elden Ring: Shadow of the Elder Tree" DLC had a few minor issues, including a microstutter that could cause absolute havoc. From Software has offered a similar solution to fix this and other issues reported by players: "On the PC version, the frame rate may not be stable when playing the game while running applications related to mouse control." The safest way to resolve this issue is to stop running any apps related to mouse actions and restart "Elden Ring."
However, the fact that this problem reappeared in the latest patch notes suggests that either the problem continues or few players are aware of the solution. If deleting the app solves the problem, it shouldn't take long to resolve it, but From Software has already been accused by players of not properly optimizing the game.
One player responded to From Software's advice by saying, "Your game runs poorly on all devices. From consoles to very high-end PCs, it lacks Ultrawide support and DLSS/FSR/XESS-modder implemented." Others point out that the problem occurs even without an application that operates the mouse in the background.
However, smooth visual performance is not necessarily the be-all and end-all. Even the current complaints about frame rate and visual issues are drowned out by the overwhelming praise for Eldenring and its DLC; Shadow of the Erdtree managed to sell 5 million copies in less than a week, while the controller and I still see streamers completing ridiculously impressive challenges in this game, such as defeating battle bosses simultaneously with a dance pad. That love is very realistic, but still, if you're having frame rate issues, double-check your mouse control app.
