The last time Rockstar Games revealed anything about GTA 6 was in the first trailer, which premiered on December 4 and broke the Guinness World Record for most views of a video game release on YouTube. Since then... Nothing. And before that... Nothing! Most of the information we've gotten about GTA 6 over the last few years has come from the massive leak of gameplay footage in 2022 and the December trailer leaked just before Rockstar's official release.
But according to Obbe Vermeij, who was technical director at Rockstar North from 1995 to 2009, the huge leak is not as devastating as it looks YouTuber SanInPlay last week, discovered by GamesRadar gave his take on the leak and Rockstar's marketing strategy, and also made some predictions about the future of video game animation in an interview with Vermeij.
"Leaks are not as important as everyone thinks. Because millions of people are waiting for any news." And rock stars don't give them any news.
Vermeij said in an interview that he "completely understands" why a game publisher like Rockstar would remain silent before the release of a new game, even though fans want every scrap of new information. 'Whenever a big company says something, whether it's Rockstar, EA, or Ubisoft, it's analyzed and often played out in a negative way. It turns into something negative." From their point of view, the best thing to do is to keep quiet. That's what they do."
Fermay said it is "unfortunate" that developers do not speak up more freely and more often, adding, "It's not just their fault. It's also the fault of the public in general. Everyone attacks big business all the time.
Ironically, Fermay himself has not been silent about GTA. He started a blog last year about "GTA 3" and "GTA 4" and his work on "Vice City" and "San Andreas" at ...... He soon received an email from Rockstar about it.
"I genuinely thought no one would care if I talked about games from 20 years ago, but I was wrong." Ruining the Rockstar mystique or something". At the same time, Vermeij claimed that it was his idea to shut down the blog. 'No pressure from R*. It was my own choice."
However, just because he does not write about GTA does not mean he does not talk about it. Vermei said he has "no inside information" about "GTA 6," but he did offer some speculation about a scene in the trailer that "takes your breath away." It is a scene on a beach, where "everyone seems to be doing something different. Every character has its own animation. I think it's very wonderful.
All these different animations could not have been handmade. Vermei said, "I've heard some rumors that [GTA 6] is using some fairly new technology that has to do with animation, AI, and all that stuff."
"I think it's time for a revolution where animation is no longer manual, it's more AI-driven and physics-driven. Of course, we've achieved some of that with 'GTA 4. If anyone is going to take that step, I think it's Rockstar."
Vermei also said that he does not expect GTA 6 to be "very different from GTA 5" and that "people might be a little disappointed" if there are no major innovations in the new game. Nevertheless, he said, it will still be "the best game ever made."
