Asterion, Kiss, and the popularity of cheese wheeling confirms "Baldur's Gate 3" commemorative statistics.

Baldur's Gate 3 was released just about this time last year, but even as Larian gears up for the next installment, the studio continues to monitor what people do and don't do with the hit RPG. As we did several times late last year, Larian has compiled some weird and interesting data on how you all managed to get amazingly weird without bothering to turn into cheese in a game as amazingly weird as 1.9 million people did.

Seriously, guys: chaos-neutral players can't answer)

Other statistics point out how few people actually beat Honor Mode, the ultra-difficult Ironman challenge that Larian added after launch: only 141,660 people. Of those, 76% have deleted their saves.

As Larian was surprised to learn at launch, the vast majority, 93%, chose to play with a custom character. Interestingly, Astarion just barely edged out Gale as the most played origin character! The power of babyface, acting and meme status can certainly push aside the appeal of a slightly cute, yet painfully earnest protagonist (with a flying cat).

One cool graphic highlights the divide as to which class is the most selective of the races. Dwarves are surprisingly categorized as melee fighters, like paladins, barbarians, and fighters, but there are some surprises here. It is worth noting that one of the top classes of halflings is the monk, but not as much as the bard or rogue. The Paladin, the most played class, does not appear as the top class of the most played race, the Elf.

I am not going to comment on the fact that more people are enthusiastic about mind flayers than nice bearmen.

...... I will, however, comment on your petting of animals. It is good, it is righteous, and it forgives you for whatever perverse sins you commit in your bedroom.

Finally, Larian presented some statistics about the ending of the game. He said that there were 3.3 million people who embraced Gail's deified form, and that there were 3.3 million people who killed the Netherbrain, and that 200,000 of those people had Gail blow herself up. Frankly, this is a bit low. Frankly, I thought it was higher. I guess people don't want to use the easy out button.

Anyway, if you're still obsessed with Baldur's Gate 3, check out PC Gamer's Larian feature a year after BG3: "I call it chaos on a grand scale," said CEO Swen Vincke.
