After twists and turns leading up to the finish line, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is now just a month away from release.
The good news is that you don't need a super-high-performance gaming console to play Space Marine 2, as long as you don't mind eye candy. Even the recommended specs are not overly demanding, although it is interesting to note that the goal is 60 fps at 1920x1080. For those with super-powerful PCs, 4K specs are not listed, so we'll have to try our luck and see what happens, at least for now.
System requirements are always more of a suggestion than a hard-and-fast rule, but in a preview of 2023, Saber Interactive's Associate Editor Ted Litchfield said that to achieve a steady 60fps at 1440p on an RTX 3070 GPU They've since tightened things up a bit, writing that they had to drop the graphics preset to "medium" to achieve a stable 60 fps at 1440p on the RTX 3070 GPU. But even so, he noted at the time, "Space Marine 2" was "fun to look at" with its "candy-like look of well-painted plastic miniatures masquerading as metal."
The combat at the time was, unfortunately, somewhat less than impressive, which eventually led to delays that would take up most of the year, and a scheduled public beta test was canceled earlier this year so that developers could instead focus on "optimizing, refining, and fixing the remaining issues." But we sure did like the look of the latest trailer. It is an epic showcase of evil space bugs being smashed by giant space fanatics. [Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 will be released on September 9, with the PC version available on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
