With the closure of Mimimi Games, the premier stealth tactics studio, Hooded Horse has taken over publishing duties for its last game: Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew,” released in 2023. The isometric stealth game was the pinnacle of the genre and widely considered one of the best games of the year.
Mimimi announced last year that Shadow Gambit would be its last release, prioritizing the health of its developers and resigning themselves to the stressful realities of modern game development. Ending 15 years of development, including hits such as Shadow Tactics and Blade of Shogun, he said, “Working on increasingly ambitious games has taken a huge personal toll on us and our families: Hooded Horse is an up-and-coming strategy publisher and hopes to be the long-term home of Mimimi's Swan Song, a fantasy about Caribbean pirates and their search for the ultimate treasure on a literal ghost ship.Released in 2023, the game included “Zagan's Ritual” and “Yuki's Two excellent expansion packs, “Wishes,” were released.
“Shadow Gambit is in its final form and we are excited to partner with Hooded Horse for their ongoing commercial needs,” said Johannes Roth, co-founder of Mimimi, in a press release. We are very impressed with their approach to indie publishing and are confident they will help us bring this game to even more players.”
Shadow Gambit received an 87% review on PC Gamer, with reviewer Dominic Tarason describing it as “a squad-based stealth strategy that incorporates the magic of save-scumming. The game definitely does that in a unique and cool way, utilizing time-altering magic.
Here's hoping that this genre-defining hit will continue to be released for years to come.
