I still unabashedly prefer the 17.3" gaming laptop over the more popular 15.6" form factor (and smaller size). With a promo code of $215.49 off, the price is very attractive.
The regular web price for this config is $1,429.99, but entering the coupon code "SAVE15NOW" (case sensitive, so press caps lock or shift) will drop the price to $1,215.49. What do you get for this price? Actually, it's quite a bargain. [It's an 8-core/16-thread chip with a base clock of 2.9GHz, a maximum boost clock of 4.2GHz, and 8MB of L3 cache. Importantly, this CPU is based on AMD's Zen 2 architecture, the same one used in the Ryzen 3000 series for desktops. [For graphics and gaming, it has a GeForce RTX 2060, which appears to be the full-power version (not Max-Q). Sure, Turing is a little less sexy now that Ampere is here, but Nvidia has yet to announce an Ampere-based mobile GPU, and likely won't until next year.
The Ryzen 7 4800H and GeForce RTX 2060 combination should help take advantage of the 144Hz refresh rate on 1080p displays, at least for less demanding titles, especially esports games. Graphics-intensive titles will be tougher, but it is nice to have the RTX 2060 for this amount of money.
Lenovo has included 16GB of DDR4-3200 memory next to the CPU and GPU and a total of 2TB of storage, split in half between a 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD and a 7,200 RPM HDD. It is rare for a gaming laptop in this price range to offer this much storage.
Other features include Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5.0 wireless connectivity, a Harman Kardon speaker system (two 2W speakers), Dolby Atmos headphone support, a relatively large selection of ports (4x USB 3. 2 Gen 1 Type-A, 1x USB 3.2 Type-C/DisplayPort, headphone/microphone jack, HDMI 2.0, LAN, Kensington Lock).
Overall, this looks to be one of the best gaming laptops in the reduced price range. But this is not the only interesting option. If you're looking for bargains, check out our summary of this week's cheap gaming laptop deals.
