Call of Duty League is played on the PlayStation 4 console, which is essentially why we haven't covered it. However, the league announced today that it will be moving to PC for the 2021 season. Somewhat surprisingly, however, a mouse and keyboard setup will not be allowed to be used for competition.
"Today the league announced that starting with the 2021 season, professional team matches will transition to PC + controller. This means that all pro matches will be played on PC and all pro players must use any controller approved by the league."
"Call of Duty League competition will maintain exclusive use of controllers for the upcoming season. This change will allow players to choose the League-approved controller style best suited for their game, expanding their controller options. More details and rules regarding peripherals will be announced at a later date."
It seems odd that despite the Call of Duty League's move away from consoles, they insist that players continue to interact with the game in the same way. controllers are not used in top-level matches in CS:GO or Overwatch leagues There's a reason for this: while it's natural to respect the player who hits a series of buttons, mice and keyboards offer flexibility and precision that controllers don't.
My guess is that the league wants to give current players adequate time to adapt, rather than simply throwing everyone into the pool and hoping for the best, and we will have a "full PC" by the 2022 season. We have contacted the league for more information and will update if we hear back.
The League also announced that Call of Duty Challengers, an open amateur circuit that serves as a feeder to the Call of Duty League, will go cross-platform in 2021.
Thanks, Dot Esports.
