Sega today released new information about the upcoming "Puyo Puyo Tetris 2. Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 is the second installment of the Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 series. Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 is the second installment in the most unexpected mash-up of the series in years and will be released on Steam early next year.

The trailer also features Tetris creator Alexei Pajitonov in a webcam video unique to the COVID era, apparently in support of the series' crossover. Strange times. Tetris is the usual Tetris, but Puyo Puyo is a game that looks a bit like Tetris, but involves matching colors and erasing blocks. In Puyopuyo Tetris 2, the two games can be mixed together or played separately.

Puyopuyo Tetris 2's Adventure Mode uses the overworld and progression system to connect levels and various unlockables for use in new skill battles. Skill Battles are a new feature of Adventure Mode, which also appears as a stand-alone mode. Items unlocked during the Adventure Mode storyline will be the "keys" to beat the highest level of skill battles.

Here is what Sega had to say: "In Adventure Mode, players can enjoy their preferred play style in Skill Battles, earn EXP to level up their character's stats, and try different difficulty levels depending on the strength of their team! After practicing in Adventure Mode, challenge yourself in Skill Battle Mode, a new mode in Puyo Puyo Tetris 2."

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 will be released on consoles in December, but on Steam "in early 2021."
