Nine years after its release on Steam, Terraria has reached an all-time high with nearly half a million players at any one time. With an all-time high of 489,886 players, Terraria is the third most played game on Steam behind storefront exclusive CS: GO and Dota 2. It is also currently the best-selling game on Steam, which is quite impressive for a game that has already sold 14 million copies on PC. The increased interest in the game stems from the fact that the just-released "Journey's End" update marks the end of the game's nine-year-long development.
The Journey's End update has a massive changelog that overhauls many aspects of the game and adds tons of new elements. There are nearly 800 new items, new enemies, new places to explore, a new system to keep NPCs happy, fast travel, and the ability to play golf. It also marks the end of developer Re-Logic's aggressive approach to the game, nowhere more so than in the integration of the popular mod management tool tModLoader as widely available DLC. the key to Terraria's future is semi-officially the game's huge community.
