Ubisoft Announces Five "Triple-A" Games by April 2021; "Beyond Good and Evil 2" Not One of Them

Ubisoft suffered a major blow last year when it announced the long-term postponement of major titles such as "Watch Dogs Legion," "Rainbow Six Quarantine" and "Gods & Monsters" following the failure of "Ghost Recon Breakpoint" and "The Division 2." CEO Yves Guillemot said at the time that the postponement "will have a very significant impact on our performance this year," but that he wanted to "ensure that our teams have more development time to ensure that each innovation is implemented perfectly in order to provide the best possible experience for our players."

At the time, all three games were moved into the company's 2020-21 fiscal year, which begins April 1. During today's Q3 investor conference call, Gilmo confirmed that the three games, along with two other unnamed games, remain on track: the three "triple-A" games are now scheduled for release in Q3, or between October 1 and December 31, 2020, and two are set for the fourth quarter.

"We are excited about the prospects for our lineup. The competitive environment will be tough, but production is well underway and our games will benefit from strong pillars of differentiation. We also believe we have a balanced release schedule planned, and with five triple-A releases in fiscal year 15, this is not the first time we've had so many releases in one year," Gilmo said during the conference call.

"And we will not be limited to those five games that year; we will also be releasing titles with a deep social layer, such as 'Roller Champion.'" (For more on what we mean by "deep social layers," see Phil's guide to making friends in-game.)

For those hoping that "Beyond Good and Evil 2," which was first revealed to the world in 2008 (no, not 2018), might be included in that lineup, I am sorry to say that it is not: "As for BG&E2, the five games we are announcing I can't give you any more information other than the fact that it will not be included in the games," Guillemot said.
