Google Stadia Pro's free game library will grow by two on February 1, when Gylt and Metro Exodus debut on the platform. Unfortunately, two will be reduced around the same time: in Google's "This Week on Stadia" update since December 26, 2019, "Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration" and "Samurai Showdown" will be January 31, will be removed from the lineup.
From today through February 5, Stadia Pro subscribers can purchase Mortal Kombat 11 for $24 and "select content" (which as far as I know is the Kombat Pack) for $16 at a 60% discount.
That's the full update, and while the response on the stadium's website has been generally positive, elsewhere the situation is very different. While the timing seems coincidental, this Reddit thread (via Kotaku UK) points out that 40 days have passed since the last "new game announcement/release, feature update, or real community update" on the platform, with only 69 days having passed before today's blog post Google announced earlier this month that it plans to add more than 120 games to the service this year, including 10 exclusive games, but no names or other details were revealed. other features not currently supported on PC, such as 4K and expanded Google Assistant functionality. Other features not currently supported on PCs, such as 4K and expanded Google Assistant functionality, are still only targeted for the first quarter of 2020.
Replies in the Reddit thread range from realistic suggestions to increasing the three-month Pro subscription period included with the purchase of Stadia Premiere to six months Stadia's community manager GraceFromGoogle, responded to the thread with a sympathetic reply, but no other replies.
"All the concerns you bring to the table are completely legitimate and I understand where your frustration is coming from. No one likes to be left in the dark. While we don't have any product updates to share at this moment, we can promise you that we will bring feedback posted on other channels like r/Stadia and the Stadia community forums back to the Stadia team."
We said Stadia was not ready for prime time when it launched late last year, but the bigger issue has been Google's stumbling performance since then. The Stadia Community Blog has been posted on the platform since it went live updated only nine times, including twice this year.
And while the community team has responded to complaints and inquiries on social media, they seem to have little substantive to say. For example, less than an hour and a half before today's update went live, a Stadia representative told subscribers on Twitter that there was no news on "when or if" Rise of the Tomb Raider would be removed from the Pro lineup.
