'The Witcher' author has little involvement in Netflix series: 'I don't like to work too much'

Anjay Sapkowski, author of The Witcher short stories and novels that inspired CD Projekt's hit RPG trilogy, famously declined a profit-sharing deal with the studio when he first began working on the series. He opted instead for an upfront cash agreement.

This ultimately led to a bit of a falling out between the author and the developer (which was fortunately resolved late last year), but in a wonderfully honest and unvarnished interview with io9 about Netflix's "The Witcher" series, Sapkowski says that his fundamental approach to collaboration approach to collaboration has not changed much, he hints quite strongly.

Sapkowski did not reveal anything about the terms of the Netflix deal (although there will no doubt be a profit-sharing provision), but he did say that he was "reluctant" to pursue this offer after multiple previous proposals had failed. 'But this specific offer was businesslike, and the people behind it were sympathetic. I had every reason to react positively."

The show was a huge success and was renewed for another season, but unfortunately we won't see "The Witcher" Season 2 until sometime in 2021. An animated Witcher movie, Nightmare of the Wolves, is also in development, and you can toss a coin now to the composers of the Witcher soundtrack (including that most wonderful earworm).
