Remember the days of netbooks: ...... Those laptops were certainly cheap, but they were also incredibly poor when they first appeared (later generation models were more capable, but still not exciting). Netbooks have fallen by the wayside, but the ultra-cheap pricing hasn't changed, at least not today: at Walmart, a Motile 14-inch laptop with a 1080p display, Ryzen 3 processor, and Vega 3 graphics is available for just $209. Of course, we wouldn't touch this laptop for $599, but at the current discount, it would be hard to find anything better. At this price, it is almost relegated to a Chromebook. [It only has 4GB of RAM and a 128GB solid state drive. However, multiple comments indicate that it would be fairly easy to open this up and upgrade the RAM and storage.
"Great laptop. Easy to upgrade. added 16GB RAM and 256GB NVMe [SSD] and it's great. I bought it for $199 for Christmas and added another $75 in parts. It was fast enough before the upgrade, but after the upgrade it was even faster. Definitely worth looking at," one user wrote.
I can't verify this claim because I don't have one in hand, but other comments have similar anecdotes. One user states that there is a vacant NVMe slot inside and that the RAM is not soldered to the board. If true, that would be great.
Either way, it's an interesting notebook. In addition to a 1080p display, which is rare in this price range, it also has an IR camera with Windows Hello support. That's something you don't see very often in this price range.
