The fearsome competitive monster hunter Hunt: Showdown has outlined its post-launch support, including a much-requested solo mode, new maps, and special timed events.
Most of the blog posts mention the game's console plans, including cross-play on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, which will help strengthen the player base. But there are some tasty things in store for PC players as well, making it worth returning to the monster-infested bayou.
The most notable new element is the solo PvE mode. At its core, Hunt is a multiplayer battle royale game, but it is the NPC monsters that give the game its personality. Finding clues to their whereabouts and strategizing to defeat them is just as engaging without the risk of an ambush by the enemy team.
A release date for this mode has not yet been announced by Crytek or its new co-publisher, Koch Media, but it is expected sometime next year. In the more immediate future, Crytek is working on update 1.2, which will include a new random three-player team mode, an improved tutorial, new playable characters, and new tools for defeating demons. In addition to this, there will be the usual bug fixes and server-side tweaks.
If you haven't played Hunt: Showdown yet, I urge you to do so. It didn't make a big splash when it was first released, but it really should have. It's a gruesome and beautiful game to look at (it's Crytek, so of course it looks great), made more appealing by the unique monster designs. Spiders made from corpses and humans made from mutated wasp nests are just a few of the horrific things this game throws at you.
