Capcom has released a patch for "Monster Hunter: World" that fixes several major issues related to the recently released "Iceborn" expansion.
At launch, players reported that "Iceborn" was filled with technical issues. They ranged from relatively mild issues, such as slow performance, to major problems, such as unreadable saves. Capcom was forced to apologize for the bugs a few days ago and promised an update.
The patch fixes several important aspects. First, games no longer corrupt saves; games saved before October 30 will reset to default keybindings, but otherwise should convert without issue (unless already corrupted by a bug.) Saves made after the November 22 title update saved since the November 22 title update will also work fine, but you will get the error message "Failed to load keyboard preset. Data is corrupt. This is not important and can be safely ignored.
The patch also lowered CPU usage, which was another point of contention for Iceborne players. Officially, the recommended CPU is at least an Intel i7 3770 3.4GHz, i3 8350 4GHz, or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X, and Capcom strongly suggests that below these CPUs, the patch will not improve performance much.
Despite the problems and backlash from PC players, Monster Hunter: World: Iceborn is doing very well. With the release of the PC expansion earlier this month, the game has sold an astounding 4 million units on both PC and consoles, where the expansion was released in September. The base game also doesn't seem to be doing too bad either, with more than 15 million copies sold since its release, making it the best-selling title in the series.
