Western Digital brought a ton of goodies to Las Vegas this year, including an incredibly fast portable SSD. This pocket-sized SanDisk prototype offers 20Gbps transfer speeds and 8TB of storage. Considering that some of the best portable SSDs are just breaking 500 Mbps, this is pretty intense. This prototype's speed is made possible by the USB SuperSpeed interface, also known as USB 3.2. No word on when (or if) this particular unit will be available for sale, but it will be interesting to see what is possible.

Western Digital did not stop there. They also showed off the world's first 1TB thumb drive, which has both USB Type-A and Type-C plugs for easy file transfer between tablets, phones, and PCs. With this much storage, they should be able to handle large video files with ease. It is expected to hit store shelves later this quarter.

The WD_Black hard drive lineup also now supports SuperSpeed USB; the P50 Game Drive SSD also offers 20 Gbps transfer speeds. Licensed Xbox WD_Black hard drives offer up to 12TB of storage in addition to two months of Game Pass Ultimate. With this much capacity, you'll never have to worry about running out of space again.

Finally, WD showed off the ibi, a friendly drive for managing photos. It collects photos from the cloud, organizes them on your phone, securely shares them with friends and family, and streams content to your smart TV at home.

All in all, it was clearly a busy CES for WD, and we look forward to seeing what WD has in store for 2020.
