Fortnite" remains the most profitable game this year

Fortnite's relentless success continued this year, with Epic's all-consuming (including Star Wars) battle royale earning a whopping $1.8 billion in 2019, according to SuperData's Year in Review report. While not a record-breaking number for a first year, no other game generated this much cash in 2019.

Free-to-play games continued to be the top earner, with $4 of every $5 spent on digital games. Most of that was on mobile, with $64.4 billion over the year, followed by PC with $29.6 billion. Consoles combined for $15.4 billion. Free-to-Play revenues actually declined for consoles and PCs, but increased by billions of dollars for mobile.

Premium games did not have as good a year, with revenue down 5%, with FIFA 19, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and GTA 5 leading the pack, followed by Call of Duty and FIFA. The diverse selection of games we played last year is not necessarily reflected in the top ten.

Overall, however, digital games and interactive media earned more than any other year, at $120.1 billion, although this includes money earned from gaming videos and streams on YouTube and Twitch. Digital games alone, however, reached $109.4 billion, also a record high.

These numbers are dingy to me because I just ate extremely old potstickers to save money. The tomato sauce tasted weird.
