Now that it's 2020 and we're getting involved in accidents with flying cars and dating holograms, 2019 seems like a very distant year, but we shouldn't forget this year entirely.
Last year, Steam users were able to vote for their favorite games in eight broad categories, ranging from Game of the Year to Best Game You Suck At.
"DayZ," which finally launched in 2018 after a long Early Access period, won the "Better With Friends" award despite many unfavorable reviews, and "GTA 5," which is almost five years old, was recognized for Rockstar's continued support of "GTA Online" and earned the "Labor of Love" award for its continued support of "GTA Online.
The game that received the most votes for Game of the Year was "Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice." Of the games nominated, not a few deserved the title in 2019, but in the end, the best game won the award. Meanwhile, the VR Game of the Year was awarded to Beat Saber, no doubt because you can play Toss a Coin to Your Witcher on it.
We also announced PC Gamer's Game of the Year a few days ago, judging the phenomenal Disco Elysium as the best (and weirdest) game of 2019. Now that the year is behind us, you can read all of our Game of the Year coverage and see our other favorites...
