Kingdoms of Amalur, 2012's giant RPG, is getting a model change, as was often the case when it was listed on the Microsoft Store back in June. At the time, it was slated for an August release, but today's official announcement has pushed it back to September.
In addition to the new and terrifying name, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, this remastered version adds visuals, gameplay, and all-new things never seen before. However, the announcement trailer is just a cinematic, so we can't see anything yet. You can, however, stare at the plethora of screenshots at the bottom of this article.
The big surprise is the new expansion: Fatesworn, which THQ Nordic won't reveal yet but will be released in 2021. While a remaster that adds a decent amount of new elements would be welcome, Kingdoms of Amalur is already notorious for being bloated. With its sheer volume and tiresome pacing, the only way to get through it without exhaustion is to skip the fluff.
Interesting storylines and novel quests are scattered here and there, accompanied by copious amounts of MMO-inspired filler. At times it is indistinguishable from an MMO, which is true, except that it is entirely solo play. But if you don't try to do absolutely everything, it's still an RPG I'd recommend giving a try, even if it's not the remastered version. [Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning] comes in three varieties. The Standard Edition (£35/$40), the Fate Edition (£48/$55), which will also include the expansion at launch, and finally, the physical, which includes a figure, keychain, five pieces of in-game artwork, soundtrack and box Collector's Edition (£100 / $110). It is currently available for pre-order on the official website.
We won't be able to get back to Amalur until September 8, but until then, here are some screenshots:
